Motion Identity

Motion System & Process
Following the brand refresh, the first priority was establishing a clear motion identity that could bring consistency to how TurboTax moved across every experience.
Working closely with the in-house brand team, we defined a behavioral north star centered on confidence, supported by three motion principles: Progression, Structure, and Achievement.
Alongside those principles, the system needed a recognizable motion signature. Built around the iconic checkmark, a simple diagonal movement became the foundation for the identity, transforming a familiar symbol of completion into a distinct behavioral language that could be felt across the entire brand.

With the motion identity established, the work expanded into a comprehensive motion system designed to align teams across TurboTax and the broader Intuit ecosystem. The goal wasn't simply to document motion, but to create a shared foundation that could guide decisions regardless of team, discipline, or touchpoint.
The system brought together behavioral guidance, implementation examples, and production standards within a single source of truth. What began as a motion guidelines deck ultimately scaled into a broader portal, giving internal and external teams a consistent framework for applying the identity across the brand.
Building a behavioral system requires understanding what will continue to feel recognizable as it scales. Creative development became an extensive process of experimentation, motion sketching, stress testing, and iterative refinement to ensure the system could support a wide range of applications without losing its defining behaviors.
Every motion study helped validate the system before it reached implementation. Through repeated testing and refinement, the work established a behavioral foundation that teams could apply consistently while remaining flexible enough to support the evolving needs of the brand.
